General Instructions for Residents
Library

The library of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) is for the use of the staff members and residents. For the
benefit of everyone, we need to observe some guidelines on the use of this research library.

I. Checking out books:
Ÿ Please write the date and your name on the green card located in the back of the book and leave it in the box on the
librarian's desk.
Ÿ Please return books to the library as soon as you finish with them (books should be back within a week) since we only
have one copy of each item, with very few exceptions.
Ÿ The books should not be transported out side Riyadh.
Ÿ The books should not be transferred from one resident to another resident before it passes the librarian desk.
Ÿ The dictionaries should not be taken outside the FETP office.

II. Checking out Journals and other publications :
Ÿ Please fill out the chart in the white folder before removing any journal or publication from the library.
Example:
Date Title Your Name
Dec.4/96 The lancet Vol.30 No. 2, I993 Dr. Mohammed
Ÿ The journal need to be back in the library within 24 hours.
Ÿ Keep the issued items in good condition and save it from cutting, writing notice at around the sides, or marking.

III. Checking out software and manuals:
Ÿ Please fill out the chart in the white folder before removing any diskettes or manuals from the library.
Ÿ The diskettes should not be taken outside the FETP office. However, you can make copies of any program you need.
(You should provide the diskettes)
Ÿ The software manuals need to be back in the library within 24 hours.

IV. Checking out slides:
Ÿ Please fill out the chart in the white folder before removing any slides from the library.
Ÿ The slides need to be back in the library within 1 week.

V. Checking out lecture tapes:
Ÿ Please write the date and your name in the green card and live it in the box on the librarian desk.
Ÿ The lecture tapes need to be back in the library within a week.

VI. Research assistance:
Ÿ The librarian will help you find articles related to your current studies. In order to run an efficient search the librarian
will need detailed and written information.
For example.
If you need information on Shigella, you should specify which Shigella, in what group of the population, in what part of the
world, etc. Also it is helpful if you tell the librarian the kind of the organisms that you are looking for (virus, bacteria, etc.)
§ Don't return back any used item to the shelve, just leave it on the table or on the librarian desk.

Before you graduate from the program please be sure that you return back any items you had borrowed to the library .

VII. Visitors:
Ÿ Visitors may check out only with written permission from Supervisor FETP, the appropriate form must be filled out.
Ÿ Visitors may not check out journals and other similar publications from the library.
Ÿ Visitors may not use the copy machine except with the special permission from Supervisor FETP. Also the appropriate
form must be filled out. There is a limit of 10 copies.
Ÿ Visitors can have copies of selected software programs but they need to bring their own clean diskettes.
Ÿ Visitor can check out selected software manuals with the special permission from Supervisor FETP. Also the appropriate
form must be filed out.
Ÿ A visitor is any individual outside the FETP program, no exceptions.
Ÿ The library is open to visitors on Saturdays, through Wednesdays from 8:00 AM. to 1:00 PM.

ATTENTION: The FETP library is closed for everybody on Fridays and Saturdays; No exceptions.
